These normally on, energise to release brakes are used for stopping and holding duties such as with brake motors, cranes, hoists, lifts, stage machinery and wind turbines. Multiple springs give a high level of safety with braking torques automatically delivered if the power is interrupted.
Whilst the machine is running they are held in a released state by electrical current with rated options from 12 to 205V DC. When supply is turned off the springs generate braking torque by applying pressure to a rotating disc (the rotor).

INTORQ pole face clutches and brakes have a single friction surface. Generally they are used in clean and dry conditions. Packaged clutch brakes are available.
Moenninghoff manufacture larger pole face clutches that can run with oil or water present. They also manufacture tooth clutches and brakes that transmit high torques without slip. Other models suit pneumatic operation.

Energise to engage clutches and brakes are manufactured by both INTORQ and Moenninghoff. Usually they are actuated by a DC voltage of 24V although other voltages and pneumatic operations are options.
