Ball & roller torque limiters
ComInTec types DSS & DSR 2.5.to 12000Nm
The Techdrives range includes sensitive ball type torque limiters and high torque roller types which synchronise on re-engagement.
Ball torque torque limiters transmit torque from input to output through a cage of balls sitting in sockets. On overload the balls ride up out of the sockets compressing the disc springs and creating an axial movement that can be detected by a limit switch. Sensitivity is high. Re-engagement is fast and immediate when the overload is removed.
Roller type torque limiters are less sensitive to minor torque fluctuations but transmit a higher torque. Torque is transmitted through a series of rollers spaced unevenly around the drive plate. Re-engagement is normally only at 360 degrees of rotation although fractions of a revolution can be supplied as specials.
Both ball and roller torque limiters transmit equal torques in both directions of rotation. The axial movement should be sensed by micro switch to turn off the motor, particularly at higher speeds
The catalogue gives details of variants which include in-line types, extended hubs, backlash free, non-releasing and free rotation.
