Phase shifting gearboxes from Vogel

Phase adjustment between input & output 25 to 1500Nm

Vogel phase shifting gearboxes are a mechanical solution to alter the phase between two rotating shafts.  This can be used for positioning or registration, for example in packaging or printing machines.  The phase adjustment can be intermittent or continuous when applied by an electric motor.  Phase shifting gearboxes allow a speed superimposition (speed trim) of up to +/- 24 r/min.  They also can be used as emergency pony drives for when the main drive fails, useful in cases such as industrial ovens.  Effectively this is a two speed gearbox with a high difference of about 125 between fast and creep speeds.  It avoids the need for two drives and the connection between them.

The phase adjustment is achieved by rotating a side-mounted worm shaft which causes an internal planetary ring to turn.  Input and output shafts are connected by planetary gears and turning the ring creates angular adjustment between the shafts.  In-line models are 1:1 or have a 3:1 speed reduction.  Right  angle models incorporate a bevel output stage with two output shafts and ratios of 1,2 or 3
